August 16, 2018

Tallahassee, Fla. (August 16, 2018)—Tallahassee Community College Trustee Karen Moore has been chosen as the recipient of the 2018 Southern Regional Trustee Leadership Award by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). Additionally, as the Regional Award recipient, Moore is the sole nominee from the Southern Region for the prestigious national M. Dale Ensign Trustee Leadership Award.

The Ensign Award is presented annually by the ACCT Board of Directors to honor an individual who has made a significant contribution as a lay trustee toward promoting the community college concept. Regional Trustee Leadership Award winners will be recognized in New York City in October at the ACCT Leadership Congress. The winner of the Ensign Award will also be announced at the annual Congress.

Moore’s leadership and support of higher education has been recognized by several other organizations this year. She was selected as Trustee of the Year by the Association of Florida Colleges Trustees Commission at that body’s annual legislative conference in January. In February, Moore received the Bill Franklin Volunteer of the Year Award from District III of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The award recognized her efforts on behalf of TCC as a trustee, supporter, fundraiser and advocate.

Moore is the founder and CEO of Moore (formerly Moore Communications Group), a national public relations and advertising firm. She has been a TCC trustee since 2007 and served as board chair in 2009-10. Moore previously served as president of the TCC Foundation Board of Directors and chaired both of the College's comprehensive campaigns, which secured more than $23 million to support student scholarships and facilities upgrades.

Moore currently serves as chair of the AFC Trustees Commission, leading her fellow community college and state college trustees across Florida. TCC’s Richard W. & Karen B. Moore Veterans Success Center was named in honor of Moore and her husband, who are also founders of the Moore Veterans Leadership Academy at TCC, which helps veterans succeed in college and in the workforce.

Moore is also chair-elect of the Florida College System Foundation. The Foundation supports the mission of the FCS and advances its initiatives statewide. Each year, the Florida College System Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships to deserving students across the state.

Moore, who is known for her passion for expanding access to higher education, recently said, “For me to be able—through working with the Foundation and working as a trustee—to focus on student success and student support is very meaningful. It allows people to have that education that creates job opportunities, that creates economic development that creates the quality of life that we all deserve.”
