What does the TCC GED® Test Preparation curriculum entail?

The courses in the TCC GED® preparation program provide lessons in preparation for the four sections of the GED® that include Reason Through Language Arts, Science, Social Science, and Mathematical Reasoning.  Technology and workplace readiness topics are also included in the program curriculum. Enrollment in this class requires a 9.0 Grade Equivalency on the TABE® Exam. 

When do courses start?

Face-to-face courses start at the beginning of each semester. See the Adult Education Calendar. Students can start online courses throughout the term if they meet eligibility requirements.

Are GED® preparation courses offered online at TCC?

Yes, online courses are offered to students who score a minimum score of 6 on each section of the TABE exam.  Students can register throughout the term for online courses.

How long will it take me to complete the program and prepare for the GED® Test?

This varies according to the student’s progress with course materials. The more hours devoted to working on GED® academic materials, the sooner the student is prepared to pass the GED® Test. 

What are the steps to enroll?

$30 per semester.

Is there an age requirement to take the GED®?

An Adult Education student must be at least 16 years of age. NOTE: If the student is 16 or 17 years of age, a parent or guardian must submit a Parental Consent Form and provide a withdrawal form from the last K-12 school attended. The form should be faxed to (850) 201-8617 or mailed to the Program Coordinator:

Do I need to buy books?

No, all books are provided free of charge for our GED® classes.

How much does the GED® test cost?

The GED® Exam is taken through the GED Testing Service.  Persons should go to GED.com to register for the subsections of the Exam.  Testing sites are located throughout the country and the Testing Center at TCC is an approved GED Testing Site.  The cost of each section is $32 with the total cost of the four sections being $128.  The Adult Education Department strongly urges students to coordinate actual GED testing with the Adult EducationProgram Advisors to ensure readiness for the exam.

Is there a way to prepare for the TABE placement test required for the GED® program?

Are there scholarships available?

This varies from term to term. See an Adult Education Program advisor and ask about how to apply for any available Adult Education scholarships!

What are the dates that the TCC Testing Center administers the GED® Test?

See below for the TCC Testing Center GED® Schedule. Students who register for the test should work with their advisors prior to taking the test to ensure readiness for the exam.  Persons must go to GED.com to register for the sub-sections of the GED®.
